Add New DataFile or Increase Existing DataFile?

Hi experts,

This is an 11g instance.

This tablespace has a single datafile with a max size of 32 GB. I need to allocate more space.

1. Is it better to simply increase the max size or add a second datafile? Any performance advantages?

2. And if I add a a second datafile, will it automatically be used when the first datafile can no longer extend?
