Active DataGuard : ora-16000 database open for read-only access

Hello All,

From application, I am getting error 'ora-16000 database open for read-only access', while my primary database is up/open for Read Write. When I shut down the standby database the application works fine.

Please suggest what could be the reason and solution for the same.

OS : RHEL-5.3

Oracle : 11.2.0.1.
