Accessing contents of HSP_AUDIT_RECORDS table while records are being written to it

JBM_In_AusSep 20 2016 — edited Sep 21 2016

All,

After having enabled the Data audit option (ie, under Administration > Application > Reports > Auditing) for a few months against one of our Hyperion Planning applications, we would now like to access the contents of the HSP_AUDIT_RECORDS table but some of my colleagues are concerned that accessing the said table while records are being written (ie, as users are making data changes to the Hyperion Planning application) might be problematic and\or not be as per best practices.

The Hyperion Planning Administrator's Guide mentions "At any time, view the results in the HSP_AUDIT_RECORDS table using any RDBMS report writer" but we would rather err on the side of caution in that respect.

As background information:

- The Hyperion Planning version used is v11.1.2.1.600.

- The backend relational platform is Oracle 11g.

Questions:

1. What is the best practice(s) in relation to querying the contents of the HSP_AUDIT_RECORDS table in a production environment (ie, is it advisable to access the contents of this table while records are being written to it or would it be best to do it against a copy of the table or would it be best to do it against a view sitting on top of the table)?

2. What is the best recommended query tool (ie, Financial Reporting, Interactive Query, MS Excel, etc) to access the contents of the HSP_AUDIT_RECORDS table?

3. Are there any other tips (eg, what to do, what NOT to do, etc) anyone can offer about accessing the contents of the HSP_AUDIT_RECORDS table?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

JBM
