Access/Update MS SQL Server from APEX application

Hi all,

I have a request to fill out a series of forms which will update and access tables from a MS SQL database which was the chosen platform for a vendor product. I need to know what options I have to update MS SQL database from APEX besides flat file transmissions back and forth.For example, can RESTful services be used? Or is there a better approach?
