Access to MQMD through JMS

I have a client that is trying to interact with our MQSeries software using JMS and they are reporting that JMS does not allow them access to the fields within the MQMD. Is this correct and if so is there anything they can purchase, that would work with JMS, and allow them access to the MQMD?
