"Access Denied" in AAS - Registry permssion issue?

Seb LJun 14 2009 — edited Jun 15 2009
Hi All,

We are using version 9.3.1.
All client machines are extremely locked down in this environment and users have minimum rights.
For example they do not have access to the control panel, cannot install any software such as Winzip etc, due to very strict company policy.
Some users require that the AAS console and Financial Reporting Studio be installed on their machines.
The console and studio have been successfully installed by an administrator and the admin user can log on to both.
However when the users log on to the PC and open the AAS console or FR studio they get an "Access is denied" error. Users do not have access to the event viewer so I cannot provide any further info im afraid.
I think this error is caused by the fact that Hyperion tries to write to a registry key the user does not have access to.
By default users have write access to HKEY_CURRENT_USER but do not have write access to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE keys.

Now if I remember correclty one of the requirements is to have Write access to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hyperion Solutions registry key.
I would like confirmation this is the case. I have had a look at the install doc and admin guides to no avail.

I am guessing this is a registry issue since if I log on to a problem PC as myself, I can open both thick clients. The only difference between the users profiles and mine is that I have some admin rights on my roaming profile.

Thanks for your help.
Seb
