a Simple maprequest in MapViewer

I read more of MapViewer (Styles , themes , tile layers,...) but I don't know how to use requests... for example in my html or jsp page I have one Buton and one XML request <map_request> .... </map_request> how can i by cliquing on button OnClick I the XML request will be executed... where will i place the code of request?
