9i RMAN and Tivoli Storage Manager 5.2 backup performance to disk pool.

24014May 20 2007
Hi there,
I am interested to hear from anyone who has had some successes with Oracle 9iR2/RMAN with Tivoli Storage Manager 5.2 utilizing disk storage pools as a staging area.

Once thresholds are reached the files are run off to tape.

Our environment is configured for Data Warehousing.
backup_tape_io_slaves = true

Currently our RMAN scripts run error free, but the performance we are experiencing when running a single tablespace backup (approx 30GB is size; on striped disks) is relatively slow approximately 38-50 Mb/sec against the "sbt_tape" type channel.

The "sbt_tape" channel uses a TSM parameter file (opt file) which points to a disk storage pool.

Does anyone have any ideas why we could be experiencing the above bottleneck when we should be seeing throughput around double.

TIA
Stefan
