19c - Automatic flashback on standby

Shaimaa-OracleFeb 5 2025

Hello team,

I have a customer with a concern on the new feature of 19c - Automatic flashback on standby.

1. Is flashback database (with retention) is a requirement to use automatic flashback feature?
2. Where should it be enabled? On standby only? or at both sides?
3. How db_flashback_retention_target interacts with GRPs? default one is 1440minutes = 1 day.
If we need to keep GRP for a week? And FRA size allows this? What will happen when 1440 minutes of retention passed?

We need to understand, how to get "flashback logs in place" on standby.
Because with manual approach (GRP on primary, GRP on standby) flashback logs *were* in place on *both* sides without flashback database.
Guarantee restore point created them.

We provided many documents from Oracle's KMs, but they don't cover guarantee restore points.

Customer's comment:
They cover flashback database inside flashback window.
Difference between them - GRP's don't require flashback switched ON.

Do i understand right, automatic flashback feature isn't intended to use with GRP?
It should be used with flashback window only? At least on standby side.

My customer mainly needs a detailed documentation with the best practices & performance for this new feature.

Is there any? if so, please send me its link because I couldn't find one.

Thank you,

Shaimaa
