11gR2 Grid Infrastructure Install - ASM Disk Group with Normal Redundancy requires 3 disks ?

JimboMar 26 2014 — edited Mar 27 2014

Hi,

I am installing 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure into a new clustered environment - 2 nodes ). I am using the 11.2.0.4 GI Installer on Oracle Linux 6.5 x86-64

However when in the GI Installer, it comes to the point of choosing the Storage Option - I choose ASM Disk Groups.

I then change the Discovery Path to pick up my ASM Candidate Disks.

I enter the Disk Group Name CRS and give it Normal Redundancy, choose 2 candidate disks and then press <next> on the Installer.

However I am given the message

[INS-30510] Insufficient Number of ASM Disks selected

The number of disks selected were insufficient for the selected redundancy level

For a disk group with redundancy level 'Normal' at least '3' disks are recommended

I always thought that Normal Redunancy only required 2 disks and High Redundancy require 3 disks ?

Any idea what's gpoing on ?

thanks,

Jim
