11.4 Help - installer hangs on Intel i7, HD530

user10879212Dec 12 2018 — edited Dec 22 2018

Attempting to install Solaris 11.4 using the text installer on a laptop with Intel i7 6700HQ with HD530, the installer hangs during boot at or just after:

        load ‘sched/SDC’ ID 107…

        installing SDC, module id 107.

I have tried acpi-user-options=0x2, as well as other options, and disabling almost everything in the BIOS, but these have made only slight changes to the on-screen debug output without noticeably advancing the point of failure.

To put the problem into perspective, an OpenIndiana live USB (2017-10) booted without a hitch on the same laptop, as did a Haiku live USB at the second attempt - with ACPI and I/O APIC disabled.  Solaris 11.4 is the only operating system / installer I have been unable to boot.

I should be glad to know whether it should be possible to install Solaris 11.4 on this hardware - HP ZBook 15 G3 - and if so what boot options are available that might help.  Or is there a known problem, or a fix on the horizon...?  Any help / advice would be appreciated.
