What are virtual Paths ?????

i have a little problem, what are virtual_paths???
i read the Topics about the Menu Icons and the configurationfile Registry.dat and that have to edit the entry default.icons.iconpath=/<virtual_path>

what is a Virtual Path ???
please Help me
