Sol 9 X86, HP DAT tape drive

New Sol 9 Intel installation with external HP Dat tape drive. SCSI bus sees the tape drive, but Solaris doesn't. I ran autoconfigure from the SCSI utility for the external bus. No devices show in /dev/rmt. Yes, it was powered on before booting the PC. (Linux had no problem seeing the same drive.) Any clues?
