Oracle9i v9.2.0.2 - linux AS v2.1 installation errors

I downloaded and expanded ship9202_ia64_lnx_Disk1.cpio correctly, exported ORACLE_HOME, LD_LIBRARY, etc, set up an oracle account, assigned ownership of the dirs and files. rpm shows that gcc, cpp, glibs-devel to be installed with latest versions. Kernel-headers-2.4.9-e.5.

I get the following error:

"Disk1]$./runInstaller :cannot execute binary file"

I've tried another download thinking maybe it got corrupt, but same error.

Any suggestions?
