JRE 1.5 AMD64 & Window XP 64bits Edition : Problem !

843798Oct 12 2005
The JRE 1.5 release for AMD64 works perfectly if you have a WIndows XP (32bits) running on AMD64 machine. BUT something is wrong in this release : it does not work with Windows XP 64bits on AM64.

When installing the JRE1.5 for AMD64, Windows XP 64bits recognize it as 64bit application and teh installer automatically suggest the %ProgramFiles% intallation folder.
When installing JRE1.5 for x86, Windows XP 64bits recognize it as a 32bits apllication and the installer automatically suggest the %ProgramFilesx86% intallation folder.
Conclusion : JRE1.5 for AMD 64 should be the best ? Nooo .... because
it runs perfectly with Windows 32bits on AMD64, but since I installed Windows Xp 64bits I'm forced to use the 32bits JRE !!! What a paradox !

Is there a mean to have JRE & java plugin for AMD64 working on Windows XP64bits ? The plugin installer does not detect the 64bits version of MSIE...
