Post on Chris Warticki's blog as well if you don't like it, he's the Oracle manager who thinks removing Classic is the cool thing to do.

What ever happened to Oracle's vaunted eat-your-own-dirt approrach ?
This is that approach. Along with their grab-your-hair-and-make-you-lick-their-boots-clean approach.
But we've been bad and deserve it.

Flash and Security? Are they for real???
Makes me even more suspicious of their stance that they will not explain the vulnerabilities the CPU's fix so we can decide for ourselves whether it is worth the service disruptions - "Oracle knows best" - yeah, right.

Anti "Green" consequences: more CPU cycles for Flash programming/serving/viewing vs equivalent functions on Classic ML require more power generation, cooling, etc.

My Oracle Support, the page everybody is waiting for. Well, waiting for it to load I mean. Clearly it must be a joke to have people stare at a screen with the text "faster problem resolution" for half a minute.
I'm sorry I've really tried but it just can't like anything about it. It's slow, it's messy.
Hope it will go away.

Long live Metalink Classic
Keep this thread alive, even if we seem to be unable to halt the inexorable forces of progress.

I agree. Thanks for the reminder, Hermant. I was also reminded of how painful the new Metalink is to use when re-reading this thread and checking out Marwim's link.
The reasons cited in Marwin's (thanks for the posting, btw) link don't make sense to me. Unable to interface SOA and security with the existing classic metalink? Isn't that what SOA is for?????

I hope this move ends up like New Coke - people prefer the old so Classic Coke is maintained. I applaud them for trying to make support better. But clearly the users are not happy with the progress. So please keep old metalink as an viable option for those of us who prefer it.

Well, not to be a "turncoat", but the new ML does seem to be evolving into something more usable. Oracle appears to be adding in the kind of "normal" html functionality that Flash apps usually lack such as links that can be opened in other tabs/windows, and the ability to highlight blocks of text for copy/pasting. I have to wonder how much effort that is taking for the Flash programmers.
It stilll does not resolve the bigger issues of poor performance, using up client PC resources (and thus more electricity, in addtion to wait time), and prohibitions on Flash usage by some organizations, or the absence of Flash support on some platforms some of us must or chooose to use.
That's the good news/bad news update as I see it ;-}
I would urge any of you "philosophical" opponents (vs those who are simply not allowed to use Flash) to give it a try every so often, if for no other reason than to keep your objections up to date, as well as prepare for the inevitable, if it really does become the only option in case you REALLY NEED to use ML for a critical problem (I know - "UGH!" Check recently announced timetable for cutover in August).

Just like with other things I don't like, as in microsoft products, every so often I take a deep breath and give them a try with an explicitly open minded attitude.
I accidentally forgot to unclick the flash option recently, so I decided to take the deep breath and give it a try. I needed to add an account with admin privs. I'll skip the other problems (ie, no way to proceed without an SR) and just complain about the interface here.
It let me add, but then didn't seem to know about it. In other words, refreshing the screen, getting out of all browsers, clearing cache, etc., did not show the account I just added. What is the point of having flashy user management screens if they are wrong? Doesn't Oracle know about transactional integrity? Read consistency? That's the kind of thing I would expect from some stupid kid hacking out a google app, not the major support interface from Oracle.
Requiring an email for login is stupid. One user who hadn't logged in since 6 years (but who still may) had no email, and no way to change that. What happens when a company changes their domain? What happens when an account dies from spam? What happens when several companies require a consultant to use in-company email for interfacing with Oracle? What happens when Oracle goofs and publishes the email?
There were some other things that struck me as just plain wrong, but since I'm avoiding it I can't recall what they were, just that it really, really, is not ready for prime time.

Is anyone else getting the emails from Oracle regarding "My Oracle Support", informing you that Classic is about to be terminated?
It appears they have a seriously deaf ear.

Not only is it slow, but I can't easily do a simple knowledge base search without first identifying a product. Hey, if SQL Developer is showing me an obscure ORA-xxxxxx error, is that a SQL Developer problem, or a database problem? I don't know - that's why I'm searching the knowledge base.
