i've got many date picker fields on my application and would like to have the pop up calendar appear at a location I specify (like near the field) instead of the default upper left side of the screen. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Unfortunately, no.

Perhaps a DHTML calendar like the one at http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=18326:54:::::P54_ID:2102 is what you need. It is completely configurable. Example page is at http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=17785:1
