Hi all,

this is probably a trivial one, but so far I'm not yet 100% sure about it: is a license required for a Web application developped with JDevelopper using solely ADF Faces?
Thanks for any pointer/precise answer!

I think that ADF Faces UI components can be used without licensing as they've been donated to Apache by Oracle. The components that do require license are the persistence frameworks, e.g ADF Business Components/ADF Toplink.

Double check this though.

I read

http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/faq_adffaces_apache.html#myfaces

If we download ADF faces using the free download link in the page below Is it Open Source ?
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/jsf/index.html

Do I need to pay for the production licence ? if I deploy it on some other server other than Oracle Application server.

thanks,

If you download ADF Faces from Oracle - you are under the ADF license (meaning you need to license ADF for non Oracle Application Server).
If you download ADF Faces from Myfaces - you are under the Apache license.

Hi Ramot,

Finally can I use ADF Faces (solely) without licensing?. I have had some problems with Apache Trinidad faces in JDeveloper 10.1.3.2, specially with the tables and skins. For that reason I like to use ADF Faces with JDeveloper, but I'm not sure if I have to pay a license.

Thanks.

Hi,

the rule is quite simple: If it has an "ADF" in the prefix then you have to pay a licence (ADF Faces, ADF Swing, ADF Business Components).

Trinidad is th licence free component set in open source, ADF Faces comes with a licence. The only case in which AD Faces is without an extra licence is if it is deployed to Oracle Application Server as it is included in this licence

I would like to know more about the licence. Where do we check for the details, price, scheme etc. for using Oracle ADF Faces components.

Thanks

The Oracle price list is here:
http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/pricelists.html
Look for the combined license of Oracle ADF and Toplink.
A couple of notes:
1. For the same price you can get a full OAS Java Edition license that includes ADF/TopLink along with OC4J - The Oracle Java EE server.
2. If you are an ISV - you can get ADF for free if you use the free OC4J embedded license (meaning that OC4J is embedded into your product).

Hello:

I didn't understood this last post so well, so, please help me with this:

If I am a software vendor, I build applications with jdeveloper using ADF Faces - ADF BC, and I sell this apps to small clients, like restaurants, corner shops, to my neighbor's pharmacy and things like that.

do I have to pay a license??, or is free (according to the second point) If I use an small OC4J for this apps (like standalone).

Thnks in advance.

If you are an ISV (Independent Software Vendor) and part of the Oracle Partner Network you can get special price discount.
One of the benefits is that you can use the special Embedded Server License to get a free license for OAS Java Edition see here: http://www.oracle.com/partners/sell/regional/americas/eslpage2_press.pdf

The license for OAS Java Edition also includes the license for ADF. For more info please contact your Oracle Partner contact person.
