Has anyone tried installing and playing around with 10.2.0.1.0 and the associated AWM, etc.? I'm having (extreme) problems with AWM. I am able to create a blank AW, but that is about it.

If I try to drill on the AW so I can start entering dimensions, etc. nothing happens. Also I've tried creating a new AW from a template - and it just seems to hang on that (well not hang, but it never returns with the completed AW).

Is anyone else experiencing the same? Any way for me to debug what is going on?

Thanks,
Scott

Hello

J install this new version, on windows with new AWM (10.2) bundled (DB and client install).
For the training J use guide and data demo from otn.
But on my laptop all working ok.
J used template included in data demo - ok.
J don't save the template, don't use language option.
Finally J created full AWM and agregate data.
My installation:
laptop (512 MB RAM, XP SP2)

Hello!

Is AWM 10.2 bundled with DB install on win32_10gR2b3_db CD or the companion or client CD ?

I just hope that the new features won't bring in too many new bugs...

Ok, some more details on what is going on (possibly related, maybe not...)

First, I'm trying to uninstall 10.2 to go back to 10.1. The uninstall process is horribly slow. I keep seeing java spiking at 100% CPU utilization, to the point that I can't even bring up task manager, etc. to kill it. Physically have to reboot the machine to get control back.

Note two other relevant items: first, the original problems I'm seeing in AWM 10.2 appear to only happen in the "model" mode, in "object" mode it seems to work ok?

Also, these exact same symptoms are appearing on TWO different machines, one is my home workstation (Compaq with 3+ Ghz processor, 1 Gb ram) and on my work laptop (Dell machine with 2 Ghz or so processor, 1 Gb Ram). Both of these are running Win XP Pro with service pack 1 applied.

Any ideas or help? I sure hope these problems are resolved before the "production" release.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

First i tried to install 10.2 into existing 10.1 home, but unfortunately something went, wrong... (oracle service won't start up) so i ran the uninstall. Yes, it was horibbly slow and javaw.exe process utilized 100% CPU, but eventually it completed succesfully. After that i tried a fresh installation, but it did not complete succesfully - it spit out an error dialog saying it couldn't find procedure entry point in orannzsbb10.dll

Now i' m going to uninstall anything Oracle related, delete any files left, clear the registry and try again....

Andris, just for further information, I had completely uninstalled all Oracle RDBMS and client tools for 10g prior to installing 10.2 - so it was a clean install into a new home.

3rd try was the lucky one. i managed to install Oracle 10.2 with no errors. AWM 10.2 seems to be faster, more responsive than 10.10.4. I created some dimensions, cubes, mappings and loaded some test data into the cubes. All of that worked just fine.
I'll try to import my 10.1.0.4 XML templates and load some more data, to see if there are real improvements in speed and disk space saving.

Scott, I've had exactly the same issues. My laptop has a similar spec to yours, and has the complete stack (10gr1, BI tier, OWB etc) installed on it. I took off 10gR1, installed 10gR2 (windows version, developer preview as on OTN) in a new home, the 10gR2 client in another, and I'm getting exactly the same issues as you - template doesn't even finish loading, can't create anything except an empty AW. Obviously it's not just something you're doing. I'll wipe the laptop over the weekend and see if the same happens in a completely fresh installation of Windows XP SP2.

Mark, glad its not just me!

One thing - even though I do not have any other version of the database installed, I do have some of the Express software (OES634, client tools, etc.) installed in a separate home. This probably shouldn't make a diff, but as soon as I get some free time (going to be a week or so...) I'll try uninstalling them first.

Let us know how your re-install goes.

Thx,
Scott

Scott,

I wiped my laptop (Dell Precision M60, 2 GB RAM, Windows XP SP2) and reinstalled 10gR2 (developer preview, from OTN) and the Client CD. Still had exactly the same problem - cannot import templates, cannot do anything more than create an empty AW.

The AW was created in a schema called GSW_AW and had the connect, resource and olap_user roles granted.

When I try to add dimensions, measures to the AW, the right-click on the AW doesn't work (it cannot open up the AW to show the model view). The only other software installed on the PC is Windows XP SP2 and Norton Antivirus 2005. I guess for me the developer preview isn't going to be a goer - hope the proper release works better.

Ok, I've worked out a resolution for this now. You need to make sure you install the XML Developer Kit 10.2.0.1.0 on the Client CD, along with Analytic Workspace Manager and Worksheet 10.2.0.1.0, for the latter to work properly. This is because AWM requires the SAXParser that comes with the XML Developer Kit to parse the model view, and when this is not present, it cannot display the model view or allow you to create dimensions, load template files and so on.

As background, I initially installed the Windows version of 10.2 into a new Oracle Home, and did a custom install of the client into another new Oracle Home, installing just the database utilities, AWM + Worksheet, SQL*Plus, Enterprise Manager Java Console and SQL*Net. The installs went OK, but when I tried to use AWM, I encountered the issues described in my previous posts.

I then reformatted my laptop, installed Windows XP SP2 (as before), installed just Oracle 10.2 and client CD (with the same options), and had the same issues again.

Thinking it might be a Windows issue, I created a VMWare virtual machine running White Box Linux 4, installed the Linux x86 version of 10.2 and the client into the Linux installation, and had the same problems again - so it obviously wasn't a Windows issue. However, when I launched AWM from the console, you could see the java stack trace that was being emitted when AWM was used and failed to open the AW using the model view, and it was showing the following error message (snipped)

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/xml/parser/v2/SAXParser
at oracle.XWXML.AW.readAWDefinitionsClob(AW.java:2783)
etc...

Which lead me to believe that it was trying to use the SAX XML parser that came with the XML Developer Kit install on the client CD. When I installed this, AWM (both the Windows and Linux versions) could connect OK to the Linux installation of 10.2, and show the model view, import template files and so forth with no problem. I haven't tried connecting these "fixed" versions of AWM to a Windows 10.2 installation yet, but I would imagine that it will work ok as the issue is a "client" issue.

Anyway, hope this helps.

regards

Also - note to Oracle: if this is correct, the XML Developer Kit should be automatically selected for installation when AWM + Worksheet is selected for install, in the same way that the Enterprise Manager Java Console and SQL*Net is automatically selected.

Mark - I've tested your suggestion out, and this works 100%. Hopefully Oracle can just add a simple dependancy on the install to make sure XML Dev kit is installed when AWM is.

Thanks!

We believe this is a known bug and will be fixed in the production release
of 10.2.0.1 for windows. This is a beta copy on OTN.
