desupport date for sqlplus windows gui version

I've been unable to get an accurate response on Metalink to my inquiries regarding the end of life for the SQL*Plus GUI version. In fact they sent me over here, I guess they figure you guys know what's really going on. Anyway, at one point Oracle was publishing these dates:

Extended Assistance Support ends on: 30 September 2005

But it looks like those dates have gone out the window. What is the new end of life plan for the MS Windows GUI version? Or has the patient experienced a miraculous recovery and will be with us for many years to come?

I am the Product Manager for SQL*Plus, so you have found the correct person here. The desupport notice for the SQL*Plus Windows GUI is out of date. Oracle originally intended to remove it from the Oracle 10g CDs, but after a number of customer requests, we decided to ship it for another couple of releases. The SQL*Plus Windows GUI is supported, but we have not included any new features for some time, and do not intend to.

Oracle strongly suggests that you use SQL*Plus command line, or iSQL*Plus as an alternative to get full access to the newer database and SQL*Plus features.

The SQL*Plus Windows GUI will certainly not be around forever and may not ship with future Oracle releases, but this is yet to be decided.

Thanks Alison. I'm working on the fourth edition of a book on PL/SQL programming, and want to make sure that what I say about SQL*Plus is true. Can you mention which database features are inaccessible from the GUI version?

That's actually a very difficult question to answer. We haven't put any new features in sqlplusw.exe since at least around the 8i timeframe. The SET commands aren't up to date. I wouldn't be able to come up with a list for you.

Hi Could you please tell me where I can find the desupport notice for SQLPLus versions 8.1.7.4.0 and 8.0.5.2.0 I am trying to list the desupport days for all of the components of our application.

I suspect that they are putting the effort into SQL Developer. You might want to look at that as your windows replacement.
