Operating system user for Host cridentials

I Successfully installed Oracle 10g on my system and am able to login to Enterprise Manager but couldn't perform database activities like Scheduling a backup, Performing Backup and Recovery etc. due to Operating System Login
Credentials problem. I am asked to supply Operating
System Login Credentials before I can perform any of
those activities.

I created a Windows account named oracle1 with admin
as the password. Presently, my database is UP, if I
shut it down and want to restart, I would be prompted
to supply the Host Credentials (Operating System Login
Credentials). Supplying oracle account results with
the following error:
Validation Error
Examine and correct the following errors, then retry
the operation:
Error: Connection to host as user oracle failed:
ERROR: Wrong password for user

I logged in with the oracle account to my local system. The password I supplied for the oracle account is
correct. Also in Local Security policy I set my Oracle1 account as part of Operating System. How do I overcome this problem? What
Operating System account should I use? I located an
Oracle group account in Windows ORA_DBA, mapped the account to it, and retry logging in using this account but to no avail.

I would appreciate it so much if you can help me solve
this problem as soon as possible.

You have to provide the 'Log on as a batch job' privilege:

1. Go to control panel/administrative tools
a. click on "local security policy"
b. click on "local policies"
c. click on "user rights assignments"
d. double click on "log on as a batch job"
e. click on "add" and add the user that was entered in the "normal username" or "privileged username" section of the EM Console.

2. Go to the Preferences link in the EM GUI
a. click on Preferred Credentials (link on the left menu)
b. under "Target Type: Host" click on "set credentials"
c. enter the OS user who has logon as a batch job privilege into the "normal username" and "normal password" fields

3. Test the connection
a. while in the Set Credentials window, click on "Test"

I'm having the same problem here with 10g but I can't seem to find the exact named screens you suggest in 2(a,b,c). I have given the service account the necessary local rights but cannot get past this "Wrong password for user" error.

If I try to go into this link ... http://ax53:5501/em/console/database/login I get this error.

Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor The Connection descriptor used by the client was: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=ax53)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=ax53)))

I've tried every way possible to format the user name as well. This is driving me nuts! Also running on 2003 Ent. Server.

Can you help?

Thanks, this solved the problem I've been having since installation last month. I'd muddled around with RMAN but it'll be nice being able to use the console.

Note to "XP Home" users. You can get the required authority by logging on with desired adminstrator account and scheduling a batch job, this will automatically provide the account with the required batch privileges.
