Hi,

The 9.3.1 documentation has a fair bit of information on migrations, I think it is probably best that you read through all the information and then feel free to ask more precise questions on here.

Thanks John,
Well.. we have a plan for upgrade & I am mentioning steps here. Please let me know if you think any change in our upgrade plan!

Current Version 9.0.1
Product we are using : Shared Serivces, Planning, Web Analysis, HFM, Financial Reports.

Upgrade Plan:
St1 - Uninstall version 9.0.1 from production environment and install 9.2.
St2 - Run Config. Utility for SS, Planning, WA, HFM, FR
St3 - Run Mig. Utility for all
St4 - Uninstall 9.2 & Install 9.3
St5 - Run Config. Utility to Each one
St6 - Run Migration utility to migrate data from 9. to 9.3

Now my questions are

1. Do we need to run migration utility from 9.0 to 9.2 for all products?
2. Why do we need to install 9.2?
3. Are we going live on 9.2 during this upgrade process?
4. What is the best way for this upgrade so we have less downtime for the application.

I'm not sure about the other products, but Planning 9.3.1.1 (but not 9.3.1) supports a direct upgrade from Planning 3.5 and above, so there is no need to install Planning 9.2 to make an intermediate upgrade. We've successfully migrated from Planning 4.0.2.2 directly to Planning 9.3.1.1.

Hi,

I take it that you are talking about the BI+ migration utility? If so I am sure this utility is used for migrating Reports, Analyzer and Performance suite before system 9.

I thought that the path for upgrading from 9.0.1 was to directly upgrade to 9.2.0.3 and then upgrade to 9.3.1.

As stated for planning, if you have your repositories backed up you can uninstall planning 9.0.1 and install 9.3.1 then migrate your repository to 9.3.1

Cheers

This is in fact the case, and is required due to changes Oracle made to the 9.2.0.3 code line. Be aware that this presumes you are upgrading an existing installation and not setting up a new 9.3.1 server and attempting to point to your 9.0.1 BI repository

Thanks!

Upgrading to 9.2.0.3 is not required for planning.

Planning, Essbase, AAS and HBR can be directly upgraded to 9.3.1.

I know the doc states you should upgrade to 9.2.0.3 first but this was for another product (never found which one) and the Planning Dev team confirmed that an upgrade to 9.3.1 will work.

I have done it a few times without any issues. The only problem you may face is with the B+ repository which cannot be migrated. You will need to use the migration utility for this.
Hope this helps.

We have very similar situation here.

Current Version 9.0.1, current using products : HFM, Shared Services, BI+ Workspace, Web Analysis. need to upgrade from 9.0 to 9.3, due to our company's upgarde Java to 5.0.11, Oracle-Hyperion would not support 9.0.1. Leave us have no choices but upgrade to newest Hyperion version.

According to the plan you have listed -- uninstall 9.0.1 --> install 9.2 --> uninstall 9.2 --> install 9.3, seems lots work, lots down time, not to mention if things going wrong during the installation. Isn't there some sort of patch we can just apply to do? Also, what's the point of install 9.2 and uninstall, can we just jump to 9.3?

Anyone out there could help us would be great appreciated.

having the same situation,

We need to install planning, to already existing and configured shared services and workspace module for HFM ( system 9 BI+ ). Also we have Planning 4x on different server and configured with essbase, however we do not want to upgrade that server and instead use the server with shared servies and workspace of system 9 ( the one that i described earlier).

1) do i have to back up shared services relational db?
2) how do i migrate planning 4x applications to system 9 app.?
3) do i have to upgrade essbase to system 9 as well?
4) any other information or precautions that i need to be aware of.

Thank you,
Rob.

we had same scenario, we had to upgrade BI+ from 9.0 to 9.3, Oracle did not provide any workable solution, we had to do it ourself..

it was a risk in production,, though we completed successfully.

u need to clone the server and then upgrade it. cloning is necessary for upgrade to be successfull.
some times Upgrade option will not recognize the existing Version.

i can do that..
