I seldom use the comments field for items, processes, etc., but when I do, it's usually to note something that one needs to know when editing the associated item. However, the infrequent presence combined with the placement of the comments field at the very end of the attributes make it rather unlikely that one would notice this information at the very time that it's most important.

I'm wondering whether it would be possible to include the comment or some indication of its presence at the top of the page to draw one's attention to it. Perhaps something as simple as altering the display attributes of the Comments selector when the comments field is not empty would be sufficient. It's already at the top of the page so it wouldn't take up any more space.

Hi Rodney,

very good idea! Maybe repost your suggestion in the Oracle APEX 3.1 feedback application (http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=fdbk31) so that it isn't lost between all this postings here.

If you haven't registered for the 3.1 beta yet do it with the following link http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=eval31

Hi Rodney,

I thought your improvement is so useful that I immediately added it to my APEX Builder Plugin. So until Oracle implements that you can use my plugin :-)

See http://inside-apex.blogspot.com/2007/11/oracle-apex-builder-plugin-v18-release.html for details.

Hm...Is the forum watch feature working currently? It has worked in the past for me, but I didn't get any e-mail notification of the replies to my post even though this thread is listed in my watches.

Anyway, great to see that you found the suggestion useful and even implemented it, Patrick!

I didn't post it in the 3.1 feedback since Oracle seemed to want to focus on 3.1 features, but I was also worried about it being lost over here with everyone looking at 3.1. Since at least one other person liked the suggestion, I guess I'll post it there too. :-)
